Retos y desafíos geoeconómicos de Bolivia para la explotación del litio

Abstract

Los recursos minerales estratégicos son factores determinantes para el desarrollo de las naciones. En medio del cambio climático y los esfuerzos de la comunidad internacional para enfrentar esta amenaza, realizando una transición al uso de energías limpias, el litio ha cobrado importancia en la geopolítica y geoeconomía mundial, al ser una opción eficiente para almacenar energías renovables y reemplazar el uso de hidrocarburos. En este panorama, Bolivia es el país con las mayores reservas de litio del mundo (21 millones de toneladas), llamando la atención del mercado internacional. Aunque este mineral es una oportunidad para que el país andino pueda potenciar su capacidad geoeconómica, tras varios intentos para la explotación y exportación de este material, así como la producción de baterías de iones de litio, Bolivia se enfrenta a múltiples inconvenientes, que van desde aspectos geográficos, sociales, medioambientales y tecnológicos, que le limitan tener una industria de explotación sostenible y atractiva para el proceso de inversión extranjera.
