Similitudes entre los sectores siderúrgico e industrial en Argentina durante el período de la Convertibilidad

Abstract

Durante la aplicación del modelo de Convertibilidad (1991 y 2001) el sector industrial argentino se caracterizó por una mayor concentración de su actividad en grandes empresas, entre las cuales las de capital extranjero tuvieron una importante participación. A su vez, estas grandes firmas dieron cuenta de una considerable proporción del valor agregado industrial, ocupando el aumento de la productividad un rol importante en su determinación. Además, el cambio en la especialización productiva industrial observado en este período dio lugar a que el sector siderúrgico se encontrara entre los sectores manufactureros más dinámicos. Por lo tanto, en este artículo se pretende analizar si el sector siderúrgico asimiló los cambios adoptados por el sector industrial en su conjunto. En este sentido, se observa que durante los anos bajo estudio hubo un elevado grado de concentración de la actividad siderúrgica en pocas empresas y un incremento de la productividad de las firmas líderes.
