Medios de vida en los hogares rurales de México: el impacto de la migración internacional

Abstract

A raíz de la crisis que se vive en el sector agropecuario mexicano desde 1975 y que se profundizó con el Tratado de Libre Comercio con América del Norte (TLCAN), las familias del ámbito rural se han visto en la necesidad de buscar actividades que les permitan complementar o sustituir los ingresos derivados de las actividades agropecuarias. Por medio de un análisis a los datos de la Encuesta Nacional de Ingreso Gasto de los Hogares (Enigh) de 2016, se evidenció que las remesas y los salarios no agropecuarios se han convertido en una de las principales fuentes de ingresos de los hogares rurales. Tras aplicar un modelo econométrico logístico, se verificó que uno de los factores centrales que le permiten a un hogar rural adoptar una estrategia de medio de vida fuera de la esfera agropecuaria es el nivel educativo de los miembros del hogar.
