Abstract

Abstract:In this paper we describe and analyze different approaches that explain the relationship among the aggregated variables: economic growth, productivity and competitiveness of the economy. The paper remarks and groups the controversies about the causality inequalitygrowth, and, furthermore, shows a model proposed by Ros (2004) supported on the approach growth accounting (Solow residual). It is analyzed other results of econometric evidences in order to enumerate the deficiencies in the theoretical research as well as in statistic and econometric studies of these interrelationships and their determinants. Likewise, the paper focuses in the description and analysis of the different approaches and models referred to country competitiveness, disintegrating the set of variables that are considered by the most recognized institutions in the world about this subject -CEPAL, World Economic Forum- in order to evaluate the evolution of structural, systemic and global competitiveness of the economies. After analyzing the inherent positions in this topic, we conclude that the theoretical approach is not forceful enough and that there are few empirical evidences about the relationships among economic growth, inequality, poverty and competitiveness.
