Últimos avances en la Organización Mundial del Comercio desde la perspectiva colombiana

Abstract

“El presente artículo aborda, desde la perspectiva colombiana, los resultados de la reunión ministerial de la Organización Mundial de Comercio (OMC) celebrada en el mundo árabe en noviembre del 2001. Para el logro de este objetivo se hace un breve recuento del periodo comprendido entre el fracaso de Seattle y el proceso preparatorio de la Conferencia Ministerial de Doha, Qatar. La OMC se creó en 1995 y es la institución encargada de las negociaciones multilaterales y de la administración del mecanismo de solución de controversias entre los países miembros. La Organización tiene como órgano máximo la Conferencia Ministerial que se reúne cada dos anos con el fin de formular directrices sobre su agenda de trabajo. Hasta ahora ha habido cuatro reuniones ministeriales las cuales se han realizado en Singapur en 1996, en Ginebra en 1998, en Seattle en 1999 y, la última, en Doha en noviembre del 2001.”
