Desarrollo agrícola en Colombia: del productivismo a la decadencia

Abstract

Si algo ha caracterizado los últimos treinta y cinco años de desarrollo de la agricultura colombiana es la significativa transformación que sufrió la estructura económica y social del sector rural. A principios de la década de los años setenta del siglo pa- sado, la agricultura tenía una decisiva influencia en la vida económica y social del país. Así, en 1970 poco menos de la mitad de la población colombiana vivía en el campo, la agricultura representaba algo más del 20% del PIB total, las exportaciones de origen agropecuario representaban el 75% del total de las exportaciones del país y un solo producto agrícola, el café, desempeñaba un papel determinante en el comportamiento macroeconómico de la nación.
