Las crisis financieras del último cuarto del siglo XX

Abstract

Las crisis financieras son episodios en los cuales se produce un debilitamiento agudo de la situación financiera tanto de los deudores de los bancos como de éstos últimos y se pierde la confianza del público en las instituciones financieras. El deterioro de los balances de los hogares, las empresas y los bancos tienen consecuencias sobre el conjunto de la economía por la reducción del gasto en consumo y en inversión, y por la caída del ahorro y de la oferta monetaria. Superar una situación de esta naturaleza implica enormes esfuerzos por parte de las autoridades, con costos económicos y sociales muy altos y de muy diferente índole, por la contracción del crecimiento económico y las pérdidas en las cuales incurren hogares, empresas y bancos.
