Evaluación económica de tecnología sanitaria y toma de decisiones en salud

Abstract

La evaluación económica es una herramienta que permite apoyar la toma de decisiones en el sector salud. Este tipo de análisis cada vez toma mayor fuerza en el ámbito internacional y local. Este artículo presenta los fundamentos de la evaluación económica que se hallan en la Teoría Económica del Bienestar, presenta las características y los tipos de evaluación económica de tecnología sanitaria, analiza las evaluaciones económicas según categorías de tecnologías, y presenta un balance respecto a la experiencia colombiana en el reporte de éstas en revistas académicas arbitradas. Senala su importancia como insumo en el proceso de toma de decisiones pero también reconoce que para la toma de decisiones de política pública es necesario considerar estudios complementarios que aborden temas más allá de la eficiencia, es decir las decisiones en el sector salud requieren incorporar elementos de equidad y justicia distributiva. Abstract: Economic evaluation is a tool to support decision-making in the health sector. This type of analysis takes increasingly greater force in the international and local environment. This article presents the basics of economic evaluation which are present in the welfare economics; it also has the characteristics and types of economic evaluation of health technology; economic evaluations analyzed by categories of technologies, and it presents an overview about the Colombian experience in the report of them in refereed journals. It remarks its importance as an input in the decision making process but also recognizes that making public policy decisions need to consider additional studies that address issues beyond efficiency, it means the decisions in the health sector need to incorporate elements of equity and distributive justice.
