El sector industrial de Barranquilla a principios del siglo XXI: Un analisis descriptivo

Abstract

Luego de un largo periodo de estancamiento, el sector industrial de Barranquilla ha venido mostrando senales de recuperación. Este trabajo describe el comportamiento de la industria barranquillera durante la primera década del siglo XXI y evalúa si durante estos anos las buenas expectativas se ven reflejadas en resultados medibles. Las estadísticas muestran que el sector tuvo resultados razonablemente buenos y ha vuelto a ser uno de los motores de la economía de la ciudad. Sin embargo, las tasas de crecimiento siguen siendo inferiores al promedio nacional y los efectos sobre el empleo han sido modestos. Los subsectores líderes se caracterizan por tener grandes empresas, con alta intensidad de capital y vocación exportadora. En cuanto a la localización de la industria, se observa que la concentración en el área metropolitana de Barranquilla es cada vez mayor, destacándose el crecimiento en la participación de Malambo y Soledad.
