Abstract

ABSTRACT This article derives from the research called "Competitive dynamics of footwear and apparel sectors of Santander and Colombia in the U.S." [1] It shows how to perform the export process by Santander apparel business to the United States supported on the gradualist model of internationalization (School of Uppsala). The U.S. market is very attractive to producers of apparel exporters because of the size of imports (83 billion dollars in 2008 and their growth (29.6% between 2002 - 2008) with a broad participation of competitors and an apparent dominance of China and other Asian countries, which makes the competition for the market increasingly stronger. It is emphasized that Santander exporters have high permanence in the market and make foreign trade transactions directly therefore it can be said that it is in an intermediate phase of the internationalization process
