Manuel de Pombo: precursor de la banca central independiente en época de la Independencia
Abstract
Este escrito se refiere a la posición de independencia y responsabilidad de Manuel de Pombo, contador y más tarde superintendente de la Casa de Moneda de Santa Fe de Bogotá en época de la Independencia, al rehusarse acceder a las solicitudes de Antonio Nariño en 1811, entonces presidente del Estado Soberano de Cundinamarca, de reducir el contenido de oro de las monedas como arbitrio fiscal sin el pleno conocimiento y consentimiento del Congreso y de la población. Su actitud de salvaguardia de las reservas del Estado y de defensor del valor adquisitivo de la moneda, le llevó a ser despedido de su cargo de superintendente de la Casa de Moneda en 1813. Por el sólido contenido de su argumentación económica, en este escrito se destaca a Manuel de Pombo como precursor de la banca central independiente en época de la Independencia.
