Relación entre remesas y desigualdad: una mirada al caso de México

Abstract

Si bien se ha estudiado la asociación de las remesas con la desigualdad en México, no hay un consenso sobre el tema y poco se analiza a escala municipal. El objetivo de la investigación fue analizar la asociación entre la recepción de remesas en México y la desigualdad a nivel municipal en 2015. Se realizó un estudio cuantitativo, descriptivo y transversal con información de la Encuesta Intercensal de 2015 del Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Geografía (INEGI). Se estimó una regresión cuantílica para analizar la relación entre la recepción de remesas y la desigualdad del ingreso a nivel municipal. La recepción de remesas se asoció con la desigualdad del ingreso, después de controlar el efecto de diversas características de los municipios. Esto es probable que suceda debido a que quienes migran no necesariamente provienen de los sectores más desfavorecidos, lo cual produce diferenciaciones sociales al interior de las comunidades entre quienes pueden migrar y quienes no pueden hacerlo.
