Mercados financieros y fragilidad bancaria en el Sudeste Asiático: impacto sobre Colombia

Abstract

La crisis asiática y el débil desempeno de la economía japonesa han generado un deterioro claro en las condiciones externas para las economías emergentes en 1998. Los canales principales de transmisión de la crisis a otros países emergentes han establecido a través de un deterioro pronunciado en el precio de las materias primas y mayores costos de financiación externa. En particular, los márgenes requeridos por inversionistas extranjeros se incrementaron substancialmente reflejando una mayor percepción de riesgo en mercados emergentes después de la crisis asiática. Colombia no ha sido una excepción. Sin embargo, los bonos soberanos colombianos se han debilitado más que el mercado en general, reflejando no sólo un deterioro de las condiciones externas sino también un deterioro de las condiciones domésticas.
