Los traficantes de migrantes tamaulipecos empleados por empresarios agrarios Estadounidenses

Abstract

La implementación de la Ley de Reforma y Control de la Inmigración condujo a un proceso de militarización de la frontera para evitar el cruce subrepticio de migrantes. Esto hizo que los migrantes tuviesen que penetrar en el territorio estadounidense a través de territorios menos vigilados, pero más peligrosos. Como consecuencia, los migrantes ya no pudieron cruzar la frontera estadounidense sin ayuda; la mayor parte se vieron obligados a contratar los servicios de traficantes de migrantes. Este artículo, fundamentado en una metodología cualitativa, que incluye entrevistas en profundidad realizadas entre Enero y Julio de 2012 a 18 traficantes de migrantes tamaulipecos, que conducen migrantes para ser empleados en el sector agrario estadounidense, examina la situación sociolaboral y familiar de los entrevistados y analiza las causas que les condujeron a insertarse en esta actividad ilícita.
