Relativismo lingüístico, relativismo ontológico

Abstract

En el presente artículo se presenta y exploran algunas ideas fundamentales relacionadascon el llamado relativismo (o determinismo) lingüístico. El relativismo lingüísticoestá representado en la época contemporánea por la llamada hipótesis Sapir-Whorf. Esta hipótesis afirma que existe una relación sistemática entre las categoríasgramaticales de una lengua y la manera en que los hablantes de esa lengua conciben,categorizan o interpretan el mundo. En qué consista esta relación y hasta qué puntose dé es, por supuesto, objeto de controversia. Además de presentar algunas ideas afavor y otras en contra de esta hipótesis, en la conclusión argumento que es necesariotomar en cuenta, además del aspecto empírico-lingüístico, el aspecto filosóficoontológicode esta hipótesis para una mejor comprensión de este problema.
