¿Es la ganadería bovina de carne una actividad competitiva en México?

Abstract

Este trabajo es una medición de la competitividad a nivel macroeconómico de la ganadería bovina de carne en México durante el periodo de 1980 a 2009; el análisis se realizó mediante el cálculo de seis índices; la finalidad es observar la evolución y el comportamiento de la competitividad de la ganadería bovina de carne después de la apertura comercial en México; el resultado es que para algunos periodos, el país muestra competitividad dentro de esta actividad, sin embargo, los tratados de apertura comercial originaron un incremento en las importaciones a una tasa de crecimiento de 124.7%, por encima del incremento de las exportaciones el cual se da en un 49%, implicando una reducción en la competitividad de la ganadería bovina de carne, además del efecto producido en la rentabilidad del productor, la cual causa el aumento en el costo de las materias primas y la baja en el precio real al productor, esto genera dependencia del comercio exterior para el abastecimiento del consumo nacional.
