L’Union européenne : combien a-t-on gagné à la faire (et combien perdrait-on à la défaire) ?

Abstract

Le processus d’intégration européenne fait aujourd’hui l’objet d’une remise en cause sans précédent dans un contexte global de défiance envers la mondialisation. Le Brexit, ajouté aux appels lancés dans de nombreux pays européens en faveur d'une inversion des principaux accords d'intégration, dessine une sombre perspective pour le commerce européen. Il est donc important d'évaluer les gains que les pays de l'Union européenne ont retirés de leur intégration commerciale depuis 1957 et les coûts auxquels nous exposerait un retour en arrière. D’après nos estimations, le marché unique a, en moyenne, doublé le commerce de biens entre pays membres et permis d’atteindre un niveau de PIB réel de 4,4 % plus élevé. Un retour en arrière entraînerait une perte symétrique en termes de commerce ou de PIB.
