Vers une industrie moins... industrielle ?

Abstract

L'économie française, comme beaucoup d'économies développées, se désindustrialise à un rythme rapide, souvent jugé préoccupant. Cette évolution du tissu productif est plus profonde qu'il n'y paraît. Au-delà d'un basculement de la production et des emplois depuis les secteurs industriels vers les secteurs de services, les activités des entreprises deviennent plus complexes et plus diversifiées, au point que la frontière entre services et industrie est aujourd'hui difficile à cerner. L'exploration des données de bilan des entreprises françaises révèle que 83 % des entreprises industrielles ont une production de services pour autrui et que près du tiers produisent, en réalité, plus de services que de biens. Entre 1997 et 2007, cette tendance à produire des services s'est renforcée. Cette « servitisation » de l'industrie suggère qu'un processus de désindustrialisation est aussi à l'oeuvre au sein même des entreprises industrielles.
