Vu du pont : l’Etalon-or de l’entre-deux-guerres etait-il un ‘regime’ ?

Abstract

Cet article met en garde contre l’utilisation rigide de la theorie des regimes de change pour expliquer le role international de l’etalon-or dans les origines, la transmission et l’ampleur de la Grande Depression. Contrairement a l’idee selon laquelle les ‘principes sous-jacents’ au fonctionnement d’un regime international d’etalon-or auraient ete determinants dans les choix politiques et auraient inevitablement entraine un effondrement des prix mondiaux et la depression, l’etude des archives prouve que les interets politiques et institutionnels ont eu une influence decisive sur les choix politiques, et que des marges de manœuvre significatives existaient a travers "les chaines d’or" du regime de l’etalon-or en vigueur dans l’entre-deux-guerres.
