Echtzeitmessung und Prognose der privaten Konsumausgaben in Deutschland

Abstract

Eine detaillierte Echtzeitanalyse der Konsummuster der privaten Haushalte in Deutschland ist aufgrund der aktuellen Datenlage kaum möglich. Unkonventionelle und alternative Datenquellen haben in den vergangenen Jahren ihren Weg in die Prognoseliteratur gefunden. In diesem Artikel nutzen wir Mastercard SpendingPulse, um einen wöchentlichen Konsumtracker zu etablieren, der zwei Anforderungen erfüllt. Erstens liefert er ex post eine mit der amtlichen Statistik kompatible wöchentliche Zeitreihe der privaten Konsumausgaben, die als Ausgangspunkt für detaillierte Analysen (wirtschafts-)politischer Maßnahmen dienen kann. Zweitens zeigen wir, dass Prognosen für das laufende Quartal (Nowcast) auf Basis von SpendingPulse nicht nur konkurrierende Indikatoren in ihrer Prognosegüte deutlich übertreffen, sondern zusätzlich auch zeitnah aktualisiert werden können.
