Im Zeitgeist? Wähler belohnen Unionsabgeordnete für die Unterstützung der Ehe für alle

Abstract

Am 30. Juni 2017 fand im Deutschen Bundestag eine namentliche Abstimmung zur Einführung der gleichgeschlechtlichen Ehe (»Ehe für alle«) statt. In einer neuen Studie untersuchen wir, ob die Wähler diejenigen CDU/CSU-Politiker belohnt haben, die für die Ehe für alle gestimmt haben (Kauder und Potrafke 2021). Die namentliche Abstimmung hat den öffentlichen Diskurs über die gesellschaftspolitische Ausrichtung der Union stark beeinflusst. Im September 2017 fanden Bundestagswahlen statt. Unsere Ergebnisse zeigen, dass der Erststimmenanteil bei Unionspolitikern, die für die Ehe für alle stimmten, um 1,29 Prozentpunkte höher lag als bei Unionspolitikern, die gegen die Ehe für alle stimmten. Die Wähler haben sich bei der Bewertung von Unionspolitikern offenkundig an anderen Aspekten als nur an der wirtschaftlichen Lage des Landes orientiert.
