Abstract

An online survey of 2,216 parents in November 2020 recorded how lower-income families with children in Germany fared during the coronavirus crisis. One-third of respondents reported that money was tight at the end of the month more often than before the pandemic. This financial situation also affects families’ consumption behavior: just under half of respondents (47 percent) spent less during the coronavirus crisis than before.
