Abstract

The ifo Institute surveyed German HR managers on the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on their work situation. Particular attention was paid to personnel planning, short-time work, and remuneration. In addition, the participating companies indicated whether and how they had supported families with children in securing care. Overall, the survey results show that, on balance, no changes to staffing levels were planned in the first quarter of 2021. Despite the difficult situation, special payments were also made in 2020. And many companies are supporting families in this situation. In particular, options such as working from home, staggered working hours, and special leave proved particularly popular.
