Covid-19 and Industry: Is the Crisis Leading to the Dismantling of Global Supply Chains?

Abstract

The coronavirus pandemic brought industrial production in Germany to a partial standstill in 2020. A number of companies were unable to maintain production due to a lack of intermediate products. Border closures and plant shutdowns in partner countries meant that intermediate products did not arrive in Germany at all or only with delays. At the same time, the abrupt drop in demand also brought production to a standstill in some sectors.
