Abstract

In an average year of events overall expenditure by domestic and foreign visitors and exhibitors in Frankfurt totals around EUR 2.4 billion. Over EUR 1 billion of this annual total remains in Frankfurt, while EUR 240 million is spent in the rest of Hessen. According to the latest calculations by the Ifo, Institute in Munich, the remainder of this sum flows into the rest of Germany (around EUR 380) and abroad (around EUR 720 million). If indirect production effects are taken into consideration, the result is an average annual turnover of EUR 3.1 billion. If all (direct and indirect) production effects are taken into account, a total of around 32,500 jobs in Germany are created by events at the Frankfurt trade fair in an average calendar year of events.
