Im Gefolge der Wirtschafts- und Finanzkrise verfallen die Preise der Sekundärrohstoffe. Für die Entsorgungswirtschaft, die ein zentrales Element im Kreislauf der Verwertung und Wiederverwendung darstellt, bringt dies erhebliche Probleme mit sich. Die große Mehrheit der privaten deutschen Entsorgungsunternehmen rechnet mit einer gravierenden Verschlechterung der Geschäfte im laufenden Jahr. Knapp 65% der Unternehmen erwarten für 2009 eine angespannte und 6,8% sogar eine sehr schlechte Ertragssituation. Im Vorjahr bezeichneten noch 50,0% der Betriebe die Erträge als zufriedenstellend, 28,6% als gut und 11,4% sogar als sehr gut.
