Ifo Business Survey for September 2006

Abstract

The business climate in German industry and trade stabilised in September 2006 after having declined the previous two months. The two components of the indicator developed very differently, however: The enterprises judged their current business situation by far more positively than in August; their optimism regarding the six-month business outlook was considerably weaker, however. Manufacturing firms expect more positive impulses from export business in the coming months, after a previous weakening in export confidence. The survey results indicate robust economic activity in the further course of this year, but a weakening can be expected at the beginning of next year. On the basis of all survey responses, the employment situation should continue to improve in the coming months.
