To 2006 a renewed decline in housing completions in Europe

Abstract

At the end of November 2003 the 56th Euroconstruct conference took place in Funchal/Madeira. Experts from 19 European countries that co-operate in this group expect that for the Euroconstruct area new housing completions in newly constructed residential buildings in 2004 will amount to a net increase of 40,000 units over the ca. 2.13 millions units completed in 2003. By 2006 a slight decline is expected, however, to 2.10 million units. Both single houses as well as buildings of flats will be affected. Differences also exist between individual countries and/or country groups: In Central and Eastern Europe housing completions have been increasing steeply for many years, but a sharp decline is forecast for 2005 starting in Poland; the recession in Western European housing construction will continue.
