The German health care system: Reform ideas of the political parties and the health-care economists

Abstract

It is undeniable that the German health-care system needs urgent reforms. The opinions of politicians, of pressure groups and researchers about where the reforms should be made and in what direction they should go diverge considerably, however, and to some extent the differences are fundamental. For this reason it is important at the beginning of a new legislative period to present the problems of the German health-care system once again, to demonstrate the causes of these problems and to compare the reform propositions and/or reform intentions of the political parties with the propositions of health economists
