Education and training in business-service provider firms

Abstract

The performance of German employees in business-service firms tends to be low and international competitiveness is insufficient. As an Ifo survey of business-service providers has shown, this is a result of both the evolution of the industry as well as current factors. A major locational disadvantage is caused by the insufficient supply of qualified manpower. This is seen in a partial lack of skilled labour and in particular in the too narrow qualifications of workers who have good specialised skills but few complementary qualifications.
