Namibia 1998 : politische Eskapaden vor dem Hintergrund wirtschaftlicher Stagnation, wachsender Armut und sozialer Ungleichheit

Abstract

Bald nach der Unabhängigkeit begann das Interesse der Medien an Namibia zu schwinden. In jüngerer Zeit hat das Land wieder, wenn auch nicht in positiver Weise, die Aufmerksamkeit der Welt auf sich gelenkt. Nach der legalen Änderung der 1990 ob ihres demokratischen Gehalts vielgelobten Verfassung wird die Gefahr gesehen, daß Sam Nujoma eine Präsidentschaft auf Lebenszeit anstrebt. Auch wirtschaftlich sind viele Hoffnungen unerfüllt geblieben. 1998 ist das reale BIP mit etwa 1% zum dritten Mal hintereinander langsamer gewachsen als die Bevölkerung, und für 1999 sind die Perspekitiven nicht wesentlich besser. Auch die Armut und Einkommensungleichheit hat seit der Unabhängigkeit ständig zugenommen.
