Das Wachstumshormon BST in der Milcherzeugung - ein wenig akzeptierter technischer Fortschritt

Abstract

Seit mehreren Jahren wird eine intensive Auseinandersetzung darüber geführt, ob das gentechnisch hergestellte Wachstumshormon Bovines Somatotropin (BST) zur Leistungssteigerung in der Milchviehhaltung zugelassen werden oder verboten bleiben soll. Überraschend an den Ergebnissen über die Akzeptanz von BST ist vor allem die Deutlichkeit, mit der die Erzeuger den Einsatz von BST ablehnen (in Westdeutschland und im Vereinigten Königreich: 90%). Weniger überraschend ist, daß die Verbraucher im Falle der Zulassung von BST den Konsum von Milcherzeugnissen mehr oder weniger einschränken oder sogar ganz darauf verzichten würden. Die Umrechnung des bei den einzelnen Erzeugnissen zu erwartenden Verbrauchsrückgangs in Milchäquivalent ergibt, daß in der EG (12) im Falle der Zulassung von BST etwa 16 Mill. t Milch, das entspricht 16% der gegenwärtigen Milchanlieferung von 1988 an die Molkereien, nicht mehr abgesetzt werden könnten.
