Abstract

Internationale Messen und Ausstellungen gelten mehr und mehr als wichtige Absatzinstrumente. Die westdeutschen Messen zogen bisher über 100.000 Aussteller und 8 bis 10 Mio. Besucher jährlich an. Die sechs führenden Messegesellschaften in Hannover, Frankfurt, Köln, Düsseldorf, München und Berlin sind daran mit etwa 80% beteiligt. In letzter Zeit geht es im Messewesen nicht mehr so sehr um Expansion, vielmehr um die Verteilung von Marktanteilen. Angesichts dessen wird Leipzig eine schwierige Position haben, sich in der deutschen Messelandschaft zu behaupten. Die Beteiligung ostdeutscher Unternehmen kann wahrscheinlich auch durch noch größere finanzielle Reize nicht erhöht werden.
