Deutscher Einzelhandel : ungebrochene Dynamik im Westen - Neustrukturierung im Osten

Abstract

In der bisherigen Bundesrepublik Deutschland hat im Zeitraum 1980 bis 1988 die Zahl der Einzelhandelsunternehmen - nachdem sie vorher jahrelang gesunken war - insgesamt um 1% p.a. auf rund 397.000 zugenommen; der Umsatz erhöhte sich gleichzeitig um 4,6% p.a. Während im Lebensmittelhandel die Umsätze mit 4,7% p.a.sogar etwas stärker gesteigert wurden, sank die Zahl der Unternehmen um 2,2% p.a.; in diesen Daten kommt der im Lebensmittelbereich wesentlich stärkere Konzentrationsprozeß zum Ausdruck. In den neuen Bundesländern steht die nachhaltige Umstrukturierung und Modernisierung des Einzelhandels noch bevor. Ein ähnlicher Ausstattungsgrad wie in Westdeutschland kann allerdings nur in einem längeren Zeitraum erreicht werden.
