Wie entwickelt sich Deutschland regional? Erste gebietsstandsbereinigte Einwohnerzahlen für alle Bundesländer seit 1871

Abstract

In diesem Beitrag wird die regionale Bevölkerungsentwicklung in Deutschland zwischen 1871 und 2050 analysiert. Erstmals kann hierfür auf gebietsstandsbereinigte Einwohnerzahlen für alle 16 Bundesländer zurückgegriffen werden. Die Ergebnisse zeigen einen harten Bruch in der regionalen Entwicklung Deutschlands seit dem Zweiten Weltkrieg. Bis zum Krieg entwickelten sich alle Regionen des heutigen Deutschlands sehr gleichmäßig, danach drifen die Bundesländer stark auseinander. Hierbei unterscheiden sich nicht nur Ost- und Westdeutschland. Auch innerhalb des Westens sind die regionalen Unterschiede beträchtlich. Der Trend hält auch künfig an: Einige Bundesländer werden innerhalb nur eines Jahrhunderts ihre Einwohnerzahlen verdoppelt, andere halbiert haben.
