Der sächsische Werkzeugmaschinenbau nach dem Neubeginn

Abstract

Der sächsische Maschinenbau hatte es nach der Wende schwer, sich den neuen Marktverhältnissen anzupassen. Nach dem Wegfall der Absatzgebiete in Osteuropa waren die Firmen fast ausnahmslos gezwungen, neue Märkte zu erschließen. Viele Maschinenbauerzeugnisse waren weder im Preis noch in der technischen Ausstattung konkurrenzfähig. Das Produktprogramm mußte völlig überarbeitet werden. Die Kapitaldecke der Unternehmen war viel zu schmal, um die erforderlichen Ersatz- und Rationalisierungsinvestitionen finanzieren zu können. Der Prozeß des Neuaufbaus geriet dabei ausgerechnet in eine Phase, in der sich die Wirtschaft in eine tiefe Rezession bewegte. Allein in Sachsen, dem Zentrum des ostdeutschen Maschinenbaus, verschwanden seit 1991 rund 100.000 Arbeitsplätze, in den neuen Bundesländern waren es insgesamt 240.000.
