Abstract

?Based on an ethnographic survey in three ? ?missions locales? ?, this paper deals with the category of ?vulnerable Neets?, targeted by the French ? ?Garantie jeunes? ? policy. Two contradictory processes are at stake when it comes to this category. First, it helps to increase the visibility of young people from the lower classes. Given the difficulties which they meet from an early age, and first among them their reduced financial resources, these young people correspond to the target of ? ?Garantie jeunes? ?. However, the category ?vulnerable Neets?, by defining them through their lack of education and employment, tends to conceal their existing work experiences. It also masks the complexity of their educational, social and family background, as our reconstitution of 40 paths of such young people shows.?
