Abstract

?The article deals with social mechanisms that lead ?neo-rural? women to become farmers alongside their spouse and to work in the shadow, without a professional status. Firstly, it shows to what extent these occupational decisions are determined by family rather than professional logics. Secondly, it exposes the causes of the statutory invisibility of these women : beyond the weak economic resources that constrain these small farmers and limit their ability to pay social security contributions, there is a lack of knowledge of the statutes and risks involved, as well as a certain lack of confidence concerning the established forms of social protection, which leads them to favour couple solidarity and to develop individual compensatory strategies.?
