Risque de crédit, concurrence bancaire et indépendance monétaire dans les pays africains

This paper analyzes the impact of bank competition on credit risk in developing countries. Using data from 26 African countries, the empirical results show that a high level of bank competition generates bank risk with a threshold effect. Bank competition generates more bank risk in low-income countries compared to middle-income countries. In contrast to bank competition, monetary independence helps reduce bank risk. Moreover, our results show that membership in a currency union does not influence the relationship between bank competition and bank risk. The results of this research also show that capital openness contributes to the reduction of banking risk in African countries.
