Abstract

Using data from the fourth Cameroonian Household Survey carried out in 2014, we analyze whether exposure to Indoor air pollution (IAP) due to the use of firewood causes respiratory infections and whether these have consequences on labor force participation. For this, a trivariate probit model was adopted to test the existence of causal links between the three endogenous variables. Our results show that the use of firewood as the main fuel for cooking increases the risk of respiratory infection in women, and these infections have a negative impact on labor force participation.
