Au-delà du PIB par habitant : la diversité des contextes régionaux européens

Abstract

Regional Gdp per capita is considered as an indicator of economic performance. It is mobilized to compare regions and to define thresholds in the framework of European regional policy. However, it is an unsatisfactory indicator to assess the economic performance of the regions. The decomposition of Gdp per capita in European regions shows that it is the product of the apparent labor productivity and various socio-economic effects. An analysis focused on a single indicator has thus many limits. The diversity of regional contexts needs to be considered in order to understand the dynamics of wealth and jobs in Europe. Classification JEL: R10, R11, R58
