Abstract

The present contribution suggests a renewal of the studies related to proximities by taking into account their subjective dimension. Among all the possible approaches to introduce the perception of proximity, we proposed to integrate it by the representation of places, the analysis of these being rather little taken into account in the work on proximity. This approach is then applied to places of cultural intermediation in a geographical area (Île-de-France with the 93 department and the north of Paris at its heart). The empirical analysis allows, thanks to mental maps, to quantify subjective phenomena through different measures of the perceived proximity of artists to places, of artists to artists and of places to artists. The main result is to shift the look we can have on the proximity of artists and places and places between them.
