Le travail à temps partiel et la « combinaison » famille-emploi aux Pays-Bas

Abstract

Part time work is an employment form which concerns about 70 % of the women, and 40 % of the total Dutch labour forces at all levels of qualification. This article focuses on historic and cultural factors enlightening this situation. It shows the influence of the feminist movement claiming for sharing occupational work, domestic and parental chores which inspired the governmental women emancipation policy lead from the end of the seventies and the contribution of the social partners to the regulation of working time including part time work from the beginning of the nineties, in the context of growing flexibility of work. It is likely that the recent bill about the right for everyone to adapt one?s own working time will strengthen the tendency of Dutch people to reduce their work duration.
