Explication du choix d'adhésion aux syndicats par l'approche coûts-bénéfices

Abstract

Social custom approach supposes that the trade unions offer to their members a reputation of good societal values (Booth, 1984). Consequently, trade union membership is an increasing function of this reputation. Do the institutional frameworks influence the choices of adhesion? Which is the impact of the individual characteristics in the determination of the choice of adhesion? Will the individuals having identical characteristics have the same behaviour with regard to unionism? In this paper, we adopt an econometric approach in the analysis of the factors likely to direct the choice of adhesion. This paper, proposes an empirical study of determinants of union membership by centring lighting on the impact of the individual characteristics and the institutional factors. For that several econometric specifications are proposed carrying the ones on panelised aggregate data (country-years) the others on individual data of European Social Survey covering 23 countries.
