Abstract

Over the last 30 years SME?s French financial markets have a long history of failure for financing SMEs and mid-market companies whereas private equity financing has been increasingly financing them. Relying on academic literature, this paper highlights that private equity is best fitted to preserve financial independence, an important feature of many SME?s shareholders and managers. This should be taken into account by policy makers. Classification JEL : G23, G24, G32, L25.
