Abstract

The aim of this paper is to study the nature of urban growth processes and the evolution of urban hierarchies in Morocco between 1994 and 2010. The paper draws upon panel data for Moroccan cities? sizes for this period and uses specific econometric and nonparametric analysis tools in order to show that Morocco?s urban system is characterized by convergence. This contrasts with the main goals of regional planning policies in this country, mainly turned toward the regulation of urban concentration, while they should focus on the emergence and the high growth rates of a series of small and medium size cities. Classification JEL : J11, R10, R12, R23.
