Loger chez l’habitant ou déloger l’habitant ?

Abstract

The short-term rental industry has grown significantly in recent years. This article examines the consequences of the proliferation of short-term rentals on the housing market. While economic theory raises potentially contradictory effects, empirical research on the issue concludes that there is an inflationary impact on prices and rents in areas with higher short-term rental activity. Other papers have also identified a displacement effect on residents and a loss of amenities in tourist areas. This has led city councils in large cities to implement regulations on the short-term rental market, but these measures are only partially enforced.
