Le réseau plus que la concentration géographique

Abstract

Geographical concentration, as measured by the population size of urban areas, does not automatically produce higher economic performance. This depends on the structure of the networks of relationships between people, impersonal coordination resources, and links between organizations. On the other hand, local economic systems, which do not depend on the size of the agglomerations or regions in which they are formed, generally provide benefits to the firms that are part of them. Even in the absence of such systems, inclusion in non-local networks may allow economically viable activities to be carried out.
