Abstract

Economists traditionally explain the different positions experienced by men and women on the labour market with three main factors: discrimination, differences in preferences and productivity gap. Those factors are, however, hard to distinguish from one another. That is why experimental approach aims at producing robust results on those issues, especially on the potential discrimination that might play a part in the functioning of the labor market. Laboratory experiences using simple games enable researchers to test hypotheses such as a gendered difference in risk-aversion or a difference in the preference for equity. Yet, numerous questions remained unanswered, such as the way those preferences are built, or their consequences in terms of behavior on the labor market.
