Les « Lions » ne sont pas des tigres. Croissance sans industrialisation en Afrique subsaharienne

Abstract

Despite the recent enthusiasm for industrialization in sub-Saharan Africa and the African "lions, " an analysis of productive structures show the weakness of structural change in the region over the last decades, although most African economies have grown. The number of jobs in the manufacturing industry across the whole region is the same as in Indonesia, i.e., around twenty million, informal employment included. The region's share of global manufacturing output has remained stable at close to 1 percent, with most of this production located in two countries. However, the region is not homogeneous, and a number of countries have followed positive trajectories.
